Zhao Yongliang, the chairman of Inner Mongolia Dongda Group, has a dream of changing his hometown, making the poor live better and turning desert to fertile land.
He has devoted himself to this promise in Kubuqi Desert, Ordos for 28 years. Even though he met many difficulties, he has combated desertification more than 300,000 mu, planted over 3 million mu of willows, and helped 120,000 farmers increase their income.
He has invested over 6 billion yuan into new countryside development and industry poverty aids, and built up a modern new town in the desert, becoming a model for China's new countryside, endogenous urbanization and innovative poverty-aid.
Over the years, he has invested over 300 million yuan in public welfare, helped over 200 children born with congenital heart diseases, built five bridges and 10 roads locally, making tremendous contribution and sacrifice to the society, the state and people.
