Jiadao Erji has been a forest ranger for 38 years in Halasha operation region of Huoluo forestry, Yijin Huoluo Banner, Ordos. He has planted about 10,000 mu forests and protected 60,000 mu forests.
Today, the 60,000 mu of barren hills in Halasha operation region have been covered in green.
"It’s hard to plant forests and even harder to protect them", Jiadao Erji often says, "to protect forests comes with a lot of jobs, including digging holes, planting trees. The most important part is to water them in order to make them survive. One has to water six to seven times a day in the summer and keep an eye to ward off fire and manual sabotage. In the past, our operation region has many wild Sabina vulgaris, which are the targets of thieves, so we had to guard the sand overnight. Nowadays, we have to get up to check when there is abnormal sound even 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning, in fear that it might be hunters or someone bringing kindling in."
Thanks to his meticulous work, that Halasha operation region has never had any fire, that the seedlings on the sand slopes get to grow to forests, which makes the Halasha we have seen today.
